YWCA receives grant from Employees Community Fund of Boeing for new appliances in affordable housing apartments

For over 70 years, Boeing employees have supported local YWCA association

LYNNWOOD, WA – In 2025, the Employees Community Fund of Boeing (ECF) – Puget Sound Chapter selected YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish to receive a $40,000 grant to support the purchase and installation of new appliances for one of their affordable housing locations, YWCA Somerset Village Apartments in Lynnwood. This gift is part of a relationship between ECF and YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish that dates to 1954, with more than $700,000 contributed to date in direct grants, workplace giving, and matching contributions made on employee gifts.

With support from this grant, YWCA is purchasing 62 new appliances, including water heaters, refrigerators, and washer/dryer sets. These appliances will update the efficiency and functionality of the Somerset apartments so that families can live in comfort and dignity during the holiday season in a year when an unstable and uncertain public funding environment makes appliance updates an unlikely YWCA expense.

Acquired by YWCA in 2007, Somerset Village is a 3-story 64-unit apartment building just 10 miles from the Boeing Everett Site. Somerset Village offers permanent housing to low-income households. With mostly 3- and 4-bedroom apartments, Somerset Village can house larger families at a time when affordable permanent housing in Snohomish County is often out of reach.
