More than 200 guests at the Friday night VIP Preview Sale had fun taking step-and-repeat photos as they entered the event (thanks to photographer Lisa Elledge of L.E. Graphics), hosted by local songstress Choklate and featuring a glamorous fashion runway show

Saturday's Public Sale had even more amazing deals for shoppers and a Purple Purse photobooth, part of a campaign to raise funds and awareness for domestic violence.

Thanks to the 60+ volunteers who helped with every aspect of this event, from sorting and pricing clothes to cashiering. Volunteer groups from PhysioControl, Starbucks Women's Development Network, National Charity League and the Federal Public Defenders office showed their support, as well as many individual community members and YWCA staff.

The Look: Classic and Cozy

It's official – fall is here! Tis the season for gusty winds, cloudy mornings and cool, crisp nights spent in front of the fireplace with a steaming mug of hot apple cider.

Getting ready for a cozy evening at home, Heather stopped at Pike Place Market to find fresh apples for her spiced cider. As environmentally conscious as she is fashionable, she carries them in an Elie Tahari multicolor leather purse – no plastic bags for her!

She brightens up the city streets with a blouse from Piazza Sempione in a rich orange hue that matches the changing colors of autumn leaves.

The Ralph Lauren leopard print wool blazer is the perfect topper for days when the sun is shining, but the wind is blowing. This casual look is finished off with a pair of feminine kitten heels from Salvataore Ferragamo and distressed jeans in a classic cropped silhouette from Current/Elliott.

Are you ready to update your wardrobe for fall? The Closet Treasures Sale VIP Preview will be your first opportunity to shop for these amazingly priced fashions; buy your tickets online today

Who is this dangerous diva?

Fashionable and enigmatic, she projects an air of mystery. Is this woman a well-dressed shopper out on the town? Or could she be a spy?

Create your own secret agent-inspired look that will stir the imagination of others with a few key pieces, like this pair of oversize Michael Kors mirrored sunglasses that hide your gaze and leave people wondering what you’re looking at.

Sleek snakeskin accessories from Gianni Milanesi and Elie Tahari conjure images of the animal silently stalking its prey, waiting patiently for the time to strike.

Top it off with a warm winter jacket from Taifun Collection that will protect you from the elements and has enough room to conceal your top secret spy tools…or a kitten.

Giving Looks Good on Her

An amazingly generous and fun-loving person, Heather first volunteered with the YWCA ten years ago, serving Thanksgiving dinner at Angeline’s Day Center for Homeless Women alongside her mother. “That day changed my life. I knew I would volunteer for a lifetime and have been back every year since.”

Heather is also a Closet Treasures Sale committee member and a lead on the Gen-Rising committee, which engages young women in the work of the YWCA. “There are so many opportunities to give back and there is something for everyone.  I really enjoy working directly with the clients and having that personal interaction with them.”

Heather is a perfect example of how giving back to your community can be both rewarding and fun. “We’re here to empower one another. I look forward to another successful Closet Treasures Sale and to a lifetime of giving back through the YWCA!”

The Look: Totally Textured

While some people love the long and hot days of summer, others prefer the cool, crisp weather that comes in the fall. No matter your preference, layering is the key to staying comfortable as the seasons change.

Keep it stylish by using a mixture of textures and fabrics. This can work with any kind of outfit – evoke a softer look by layering delicate dressed-up lace with luxurious vintage fur, or show-off your inner rock star by layering casual denim with hard-edged leather.

The Look: Work & Play

It can be hard to find an outfit appropriate for the office and cute enough for after-work drinks, but these ensembles are the perfect mix of corporate and casual.

A brightly colored bottom paired with neutral colored top project a professional vibe, while the unusual prints and accessories give these looks a fun twist. The structured totes are perfect for carrying your smartphone, business cards and lip gloss. Both outfits are finished-off with a pair of funky flats that will still feel comfortable at the end of a long day.

Shop to Empower!

Coming to South Lake Union in early October: the 11th Annual Closet Treasures Sale, with deep discounts on designer clothing, shoes and accessories.

Unbelievable deals aren’t the only reason to shop the Closet Treasures Sale. Your purchase will go directly to YWCA programs that help women reach economic empowerment, in part by providing work and interview-appropriate outfits. In 2012, YWCA clothing services reached more than 5,200 people across King and Snohomish Counties!

The clothes you wear leave an impression on the world; a new look can make a big difference to a woman in need. With the help of a few generous community partners, we recently did a makeover and photo shoot with clients of Dress for Success Seattle. Here is what one woman said about the experience:

“The day I graduated from YWCA BankWork$, I was offered a teller position with Bank of America. And I have the makeover team to thank for giving me that opportunity! I sincerely believe that my new image gave me the added confidence I needed to get the job. The help from this team has been a life-changing experience for me.”

Scroll down to see some of their inspiring transformations. A huge thanks to the Glam Squad: Margo Jones (wardrobe and creative consultant), Natalie Johnson and Capri Rowland (hair sylists), Lina Wheeler and Isaac Miranda (makeup artists), and photographer Stephen Gilbert!
