LOCATION: YWCA Dunlap Elementary, Partnership with Seattle Public Schools
REPORTS TO: Director, Child Care
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and implements a developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive Early Childhood Program, ensuring that curriculum, lesson plans, child screenings and assessments, classroom environment and classroom routines follow Head Start Performance Standards and Seattle Public Schools Work Plan
Conducts a minimum of two home visits and two conferences per year with each family enrolled in Head Start
Participates in interdisciplinary staffing with Head Start at least three times per year
Maintains Head Start required documentation and records that are stored in a confidential manner
Plans and participates in parent involvement programs
Attends trainings as required
Assesses the development and needs of each child within eight weeks of enrollment and updates them at least twice per year
Conducts and records regular observations of child behaviors
Makes recommendations on any referrals to the Director
Organizes and maintains classroom environment, supplies and equipment
Provides direct supervision and training of assistant teacher, floaters and volunteers in the classroom
Communicates frequently with parents (verbally, in writing and through conferences)
Implements schedules and routines in cooperation with other staff members in an equitable manner
Maintains health and safety standards according to licensing requirements
Keeps abreast of current research and practices in Early Childhood Education
Develops positive relationships with children, parents, co-workers and volunteers
Maintains necessary records
Plans and implements family social events
Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
BA in early Childhood Education; OR
AA in Early Childhood Education or CDA plus two years experience in Early Childhood Education; OR
BA in a related field with one year experience preferred in Early Childhood Education and with the requirement that within three years one of the following would be obtained; State ECE Endorsement, OR an AA in Early Childhood Education, OR a CDA
REQUIREMENTS
Proof of physical exam and negative TB test must be on file
First Aid/CPR card within 90 days
Food Handler’s Permit within 90 days
Proven ability in all areas of Early Childhood curriculum development and implementation including language development, music, art, pre-reading, pre-math, pre-science, etc.
Requires some scheduling flexibility for training, home visits, staffing and parent events
Must have valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable automobile
RATE, HOURS, BENEFITS
$17.49-$23.79 per hour DOQ
40 hours per week
