New Community Development
YWCA Family Village at Issaquah | YWCA Passage Point | YWCA Learning Center at Greenbridge | Snohomish County |
| YWCA Family Village at Issaquah A new YWCA community planned for the Issaquah Highlands neighborhood will provide much needed mixed-income housing for families, seniors and the disabled on the Eastside. The YWCA plans to create approximately 150 new apartments and townhouses ranging in size from studios to three-bedrooms for residents who will earn, on average, up to $18.75 an hour (or, less than $39,000 a year for a family of four). About one quarter of the families will be very low-income, earning up to $23,000 a year for a family of four; and five units will be set aside for women and families moving out of homelessness. Additionally, plans tentatively call for a community gathering space, child care center and an environmentally sustainable design with walkways and outdoor areas to foster a sense of neighborhood. The bulk of construction is expected to occur in 2010 with families moving in the following year. Contact: Linda Hall at lhall@ywcaworks.org or 206.490.4382.
| YWCA Passage Point
After a 9-0 vote of the King County Council, the YWCA has begun renovating the former Cedar Hills Alcohol Treatment Center near Maple Valley into a new supportive housing program, YWCA Passage Point. The project—a partnership between the YWCA, King County Housing Authority and King County government—will provide housing for 46 families as well as education, job training, counseling and other supportive services in Phase One. Phase Two will add 24 additional units with an increase in services to match. When the project is complete, the YWCA and its partners will have created 70 new units of housing where single parents discharged or diverted from the criminal justice and other public systems will be able to reunite with their children. Opening is set for 2009. Additional information: Fact Sheet | Children's Services | Security at YWCA Passage Point

| YWCA Learning Center at Greenbridge
In November 2007, construction began on the YWCA Learning Center at Greenbridge in southwest Seattle, scheduled for completion at the end of 2008. The 10,000 square-foot Learning Center will include classrooms, a state-of-the-art computer learning lab and a branch of the King County Library System. It will also house the YWCA’s Greenbridge Career Development Center and the GirlsFirst leadership program, which both currently operate in temporary locations. The Learning Center will meet “Built Green” standards and have an open floor plan to encourage collaborative programming. It will offer ample parking and access to nearby community facilities.
| Snohomish County
In 2007, the YWCA acquired three properties in Snohomish County, preserving 220 units of affordable housing for women and families. The acquisition marked the largest affordable housing purchase in Snohomish County’s history. The deal included three apartment complexes in Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Everett: • Victorian Woods, Mountlake Terrace - 66 apartments • Somerset Village, Lynnwood - 64 apartments • Wear To Live, south Everett - 90 apartments With these three properties, the YWCA is confronting the increasing lack of affordable housing in Snohomish County, as well as continuing to provide comprehensive services focused on empowering women and families.
