Donate your vehicle to the YWCA

Donating your vehicle to the YWCA is an easy way to help support women and families in King and Snohomish Counties. The proceeds that we receive from donated vehicles help to pay for housing and services that help move women and families from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

Important note: Tax laws have changed as of January 1, 2005. Instead of deducting the Fair Market/Blue Book Value or appraisal for cars valued at $5,000 or more, you can deduct only the gross amount that the charity actually receives for the car. This amount could be less than fair market value.

What can I donate?
Cars, vans and trucks.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. The YWCA is a 501c3 tax exempt organization and all donations are tax deductible. Since all situations are different, please check with a tax professional to determine how you will benefit.

What do I need to donate my vehicle?
We would like the title to the vehicle. If you do not have the title, you will need a notarized Affidavit of Loss/Release of Interest or Affidavit in Lieu of Title. These documents can be acquired at any Department of Licensing location.

My vehicle doesn’t run. Can I still donate?
Yes, but some restrictions apply. We consider the kind of vehicle, the age, the interior/exterior condition of the vehicle and related problems when accepting donations. We do not accept vehicles that were manufactured before 1989.

How will my vehicle be picked up?
Our auctioneer will contact you to arrange for a convenient date to tow the vehicle.

How long will it take to pick up my vehicle?
Our auctioneer can usually pick it up in a week to 10 days. This varies depending on the location of the vehicle. Occasionally, other arrangements can be made.

Where do you pick up vehicles?
We can pick up vehicles throughout most of the Puget Sound area. We do not accept vehicles that are on the islands.

How is the value of my vehicle determined for tax purposes?
We will inform you of the gross amount received for your vehicle. This is the amount that you will use for tax purposes. Please note that this amount could be less than the Fair Market Value.

What about the seller’s Report of Sale?
You may complete this form online at www.dol.wa.gov or detach, complete and mail the form to: State of Washington, Department of Licensing, PO Box 9038, Olympia, WA 98507-9038. For further information, call (360) 902-3770, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
