South King County

The YWCA emergency shelter and transitional housing programs in South King County are designed to help homeless families begin the process of rebuilding their lives. The YWCA has over 40 units of housing located throughout South King County, including Renton, Kent, Auburn and Federal Way. Here's a look at our South King County programs:

Emergency Housing
The YWCA runs safe emergency shelter facilities in Auburn, Kent and Renton. Our programs help families meet basic survival needs with housing, crisis intervention, counseling and community resource referral services, as well as access to health care, food, clothing and transportation at no charge. Our services are available for single or two-parent families. Call (425) 226-1266 for more information.

Transitional Housing

  • Anita Vista
This confidential transitional housing program provides victims of domestic violence and their children with a safe haven. It was the first transitional domestic violence housing program in King County based outside of Seattle. Women and children receive low-cost housing, domestic violence education, employment counseling, parenting and money management classes, mental, physical and emotional health care, ESL classes and advocacy services from the on-site staff. The goal of the program is to promote self-sufficiency so that families will be able to obtain and maintain permanent housing and live with increased knowledge of domestic violence and how to maintain their personal safety.
  • Auburn & Federal Way Program
The YWCA provides transitional housing and case management services to 19 homeless families in Auburn and Federal Way at one time. The program includes up to 24 months in a furnished apartment with goal setting assistance in areas such as employment, parenting, money management, mental, physical and emotional health care for adults and children, ESL classes, and more. Case managers coach families and provide referrals to resources that can help families achieve their goals. The program promotes self-sufficiency so that each family will be able to obtain and maintain permanent housing upon completion of the program. Families must be referred by a case manager For more information, please call (425) 226-1266.

Homelessness Prevention
We provide financial support to families who can remain in their apartment or home with a one-time grant or loan that will prevent eviction. The YWCA works with families to review their income and expenses, and to identify other resources for temporary or ongoing support. This service is available throughout South King County, from the YWCA under the auspices of the King County Housing Stability Project. The cities of SeaTac and Tukwila contract with the YWCA to provide homelessness prevention funds to their residents. Windermere Foundation is a partner in this service. Call (425) 226-1266 for more information.
