Leadership, confidence, skills and opportunities for Girls of Color

YWCA GirlsFirstsm is a year-long program that is open to all girls entering high school who have the desire and potential for leadership and excellence. The program is specifically designed to attract Girls of Color who are faced with economic and social barriers to success. The program begins the summer before girls enter their freshman year of high school and continues throughout the academic year. Girls receive comprehensive services, including academic skill building, mentoring, goal setting, and exposure to a variety of experiences to help them succeed in school and in their future pursuits.

The program includes:

  • Three-week Summer Leadership Academy
  • Weekend overnight leadership retreat at Seattle University
  • Weekly after-school sessions during the school year
  • Monthly “Leadership in Action” days
  • Academic support
  • Alumni support and mentoring
