Displaced Homemaker Program

Program Overview
The Displaced Homemaker Program is designed to help individuals who have spent 10 or more years as homemakers transition into the workplace. Workshops are offered at Shoreline, Edmonds and Everett Community Colleges, Everett Public Library, the YWCA Regional Center in Everett and various other Snohomish County locations. We offer the following:

  • Transition and job readiness workshop consisting of 58 hours of instruction (offered monthly at varying locations)
  • Information and referral services
  • Two counseling sessions through Pathways for Women
  • Access to the YWCA Working Wardrobe to obtain interview-appropriate clothing
  • Quarterly mentoring and networking breakfasts

Eligibility
Preference for enrollment in the class will be given to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  1. Have worked in the home providing unsalaried household services for family members on a full-time basis for 10 or more years
  2. AND, have been dependent on the income of another family member but are, or will soon be, losing that income
  3. OR, have been dependent on federal assistance but are no longer eligible for that assistance
  4. OR, were supported as the parent of minor children by public assistance or spousal support, but your youngest child is within two years of reaching 18 years of age
  5. AND, are low-income

Individuals who do not meet the above criteria but are in similar circumstances may be included in the class if space allows.
