Touching Lives...
The Lives
  • A single mother of three who's been receiving public assistance for many years secures a living wage job.
  • A 17-year-old woman—homeless after leaving an abusive, drug-involved household—finds employment, housing and new level of self-esteem at the Working Zone, a YWCA employment program for homeless teens in Seattle's University District.
  • A mother of five, just 22 years old, received job training and a nine-month internship through the YWCA Community Jobs Initiative program. Today, she no longer receives public assistance and is successful in her new full-time administrative job.

The Outcomes

  • Last year, 3,171 women and men received the training and support they needed to improve their employability.
  • Another 672 women participated in employment support/networking groups through Dress for Success Seattle.
  • 3,380 women received work-appropriate clothing for job interviews or employment.
  • More than 19,000 job seekers used the resources of the YWCA’s Career Development Centers for self-directed job search.
Making a real difference.
