REPORTS TO: Housing Services Program Manager

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1 Part-time weekend (shifts are 8am-4:30pm and 2:30-11pm)


Provides case management and coordination of services for homeless families in Emergency Shelter.  Works with the family to develop a culturally sensitive self-sufficiency plan to establish and prioritize goals, identifying strengths and barriers, and develop an action plan to achieve goals. This position has a social justice component that requires critical thinking through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism and grounding those principles in everyday work are required job skills and core values. Case Management

  • Conduct screening, intake and placement of emergency housing families as assigned by Program Manager.
  • Meet weekly with families on identified caseload, to coordinate service delivery, aid in overcoming barriers to housing, assist in negotiating the social service system and evaluate progress in meeting goals.
  • Work with families to set goals and objectives around obtaining and maintaining employment which encourage self-sufficiency and self-determination which lead to stabilization in permanent housing.  Work in partnership with YWCA Employment Services staff to create a family development plan utilizing a strength-based model with emphasis on employment and permanent housing.
  • Provide advocacy, information and referral in response to needs expressed by the family.
  • Effectively collaborate with other YWCA programs to provide comprehensive services to meet client needs.
  • Act as a liaison between mainstream service providers and families when needed.
  • Provide conflict management.
  • Respond effectively to crisis situations.
  • Work with Program Manager to implement an action plan for families who are non-compliant with program guidelines and/or policies.
  • Facilitate workshops, life skills classes and other program services to residents in shelter and transitional housing programs.
  • Cross train to cover Specialized and Integrated Services housing sites to support team.


  • Conduct weekly walk through of all units.
  • Schedule cleaning of emergency units, to include reporting and monitoring repairs needed to the Facilities Technician or the Program Manager, and schedule pest control services as needed.
  • Stock emergency housing units with hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies and household items.  Communicate with the Program Manager about needed items for stocking units and necessary furniture needs

Record keeping and Reporting

  • Create and maintain a client file for each family.  The files will include all forms and paperwork by the contract of the program that the family is participating in.
  • Update case notes after each significant interaction with client/family.
  • Actively participate in regular supervisory and team or unit meetings.
  • Develop and maintain resource files.
  • Provides information to administrative staff for the completion of reports and database.
  • Completes transitional housing reports, to include Annual Progress Report and Annual Service Evaluation.

Other responsibilities

  • Represent the YWCA in the community; including but not limited to committees and fundraising.
  • Ensure distribution of donations including YWCA Adopt a Family and School Days.
  • Screen and intake participants for the Address Confidentiality Program through the Washington Secretary of State’s Office
  • Incorporate the YWCA’s Social Justice Initiative by understanding how racism, sexism, classism and other oppressions intersect and are embedded in institutions.
  • Continue search for understanding of racial, gender and class equity.
  • Adhere to all Volunteer Services protocol relative to volunteer usage, recognition and monitoring.
  • Assure that clients, staff, volunteers and community partners are treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, ethnic background, gender or socioeconomic background.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • At least two years of direct social service experience, including one year working with low-income and/or homeless families and/or victims of domestic violence


  • A Bachelor’s Degree with at least one year of direct social service experience working with low income and/or homeless families


  • Knowledge of domestic violence issues.
  • Knowledge of homelessness issues.
  • Can demonstrate an ability to engage with diverse communities.
  • Experience working with communities of color and people from different cultures than your own.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty
  • Can demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
  • Can demonstrate excellent listening skills.
  • Energetic and Enthusiastic.
  • Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Knowledge of available resources in Seattle-King County for low income/homeless families.
  • Knowledge of mental health, drug and alcohol issues preferred.
  • Must be able to travel from site to site.

  • Continuously exchanges information through listening and talking with clients, agency staff, volunteers and individuals in the community
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and climbs in performing duties and in traveling to off-site meetings
  • Frequently reaches and grasps in using telephones, computers, and in general operations
  • Frequently lifts and carries up to 5 lbs. of paperwork, files and materials
  • Frequently to occasionally performs close work while updating files, reading program information and using computer

*Continuously requires this activity or exposure over 80% of the time, frequently: 20%-80%, occasionally: under 20%.


  • Wage: $16.35 per hour
  • Part-time weekend positions (8-4:30pm and 2:30-11pm)
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification: Non-exempt
